The Simple Indian Lifestyle That Kept Generations Healthy
Prayer, meditation, cycling, and fresh home-cooked meals — this was once the rhythm of daily life in India. The simplicity of that lifestyle, health experts say, played a key role in preventing lifestyle-related diseases now common across urban India.
People relied on lentils, herbs, and whole grains rather than processed foods. Meals were freshly ground and cooked daily, while physical activity and spiritual discipline balanced both body and mind.
“Even the spices — turmeric, cumin, coriander — were natural medicines,” says a wellness expert. “They detoxified the body, maintained heart health, and kept the metabolism strong.”
As modern diets become more calorie-dense and less nutrient-rich, researchers believe revisiting this traditional Indian pattern could help curb obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular problems.
